Privacy Policy

What the app and this website do, and do not do, with your data.

Who is responsible

Keyboard Corrector is a Windows application provided by its developer. For questions about this policy or requests about your data, email keyboardcorrector@gmail.com.

Summary

  • Your selected text is converted on your computer. It is not sent to us and not saved to a file.
  • Your settings (the two languages you chose) stay on your computer.
  • If you activate a license, the app sends your license key and a device identifier to the license server, and checks the license again from time to time. Without a license, the app contacts no server.
  • If you email us, we receive your email address and your message.
  • This website uses no analytics, advertising or cookies. It stores your language choice in your browser.

Your text

The conversion happens on your computer. The app does not send the text you select to us or to anyone else, and it does not save that text to a file.

To read your selection, the app uses the Windows clipboard. It saves the text currently on the clipboard, copies your selection, converts it, pastes the result, and then puts the saved text back. Only text is saved and restored: if the clipboard held something else, such as an image or files, that content is replaced and is not restored. While this happens, your selected text is briefly on the clipboard, where other programs on your computer can read it, as with any copy and paste.

Data stored on your computer

The app keeps these files in the folder %LOCALAPPDATA%\KeyboardCorrector:

  • settings.json: the two languages you selected. Plain text.
  • device_id.txt: a device identifier, as plain text. It is a hash of the Windows machine identifier (MachineGuid), or a random value if that identifier cannot be read. It does not contain your name, Windows username or email address.
  • license.dat (only after you activate a license): information about your license, such as your license key, the device identifier, the license status, plan, expiry date and the time of the last check. It is encrypted with Windows data protection (DPAPI), which ties it to your Windows user account.

You can delete this folder yourself at any time.

License activation and checks

The free French ↔ Arabic correction needs no license. If no license is stored on your computer, the app does not contact a license server.

When you activate a license, and afterwards when the app starts and about every six hours while it is running, it sends two items to the license server:

  • the license key, and
  • the device identifier described above.

The server replies whether the key is valid, with the plan (monthly or yearly), the expiry date and a message. The app stores the plan and expiry date locally and shows them in its window. If the server rejects the key, the app stops treating the license as valid and premium language pairs stop working. If the server cannot be reached, the app does not treat that as a rejection: it keeps relying on the stored license only for a limited offline period, after which premium pairs stop working until the app can verify the license again.

As with any internet connection, the request also reveals your IP address to the license server.

Purpose: the license key and the device identifier are sent so that the license server can decide whether the key is valid and which plan and expiry date apply. The device identifier identifies the Windows installation that sent the request. They are not used by the app for anything else.

Buying a license

Online checkout is not available yet, so this website does not currently collect payments or payment details. When checkout is added, payments will be handled by a third-party payment provider, which processes your payment details under its own privacy policy. This policy will be updated before checkout is enabled.

When you contact us

If you email keyboardcorrector@gmail.com, we receive your email address and whatever you write, and we use them to answer you.

This website

This website does not use analytics, advertising, tracking scripts or cookies, and it loads no third-party scripts, fonts or images. It stores one item in your browser's local storage (localStorage): your language choice. That item stays in your browser and is not sent to us.

Whoever hosts the website may keep ordinary server logs, such as IP address and request time, under its own policies.

Sharing

The app and this website include no advertising, analytics or tracking services. The only network request the app makes is the license request described above, and it is made only when a license is activated or stored.

Your rights and choices

Depending on where you live, you may have rights over your personal data, such as access, correction or deletion. To make a request, email keyboardcorrector@gmail.com. Nothing in this policy limits the rights you have under the privacy laws that apply to you. Data stored on your computer stays there until you delete it; you can delete the folder described above at any time.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page.
